India vs England 2021: India level the series in a high-scoring thriller
India celebrate a wicket
India came back from the dead to seal a thrilling victory in the fourth T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. At one point, it seemed like England were cruising to a victory with Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan were inching their side closer to victory. However, a stunning double-strike from Shardul Thakur to remove both left-handers in the space of two balls did the trick for India.
Winning the toss for the third time in the series, Eoin Morgan put India in to bat once again. England were unchanged while India brought in Suryakumar Yadav for Ishan Kishan who had suffered an injury and Rahul Chahar instead of Yuzvendra Chahal. Looking to provide a solid opening stand for the first time in the series, the Indian openers flattered to deceive yet again as they both got out cheaply.
Shardul Thakur turns the tie in India’s favor
India were pegged back by an early dismissal for Rohit Sharma who chipped a straight deliver back to Jofra Archer. KL Rahul‘s wretched form in the series continued as well as he got out for 14. Virat Kohli also suffered a failure coming down the track to Adil Rashid only to get stumped, being foxed by a googly. Suryakumar Yadav however, rescued India with an innings of the highest quality as he got to his half-century. A late cameo by Shreyas Iyer then pushed India’s score to 185.
In the chase England got off to a horror start as well as they lost Jos Buttler early off Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s bowling. Jason Roy then got himself to a 40 before getting out. Dawid Malan did not last long either. But Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes came up with an explosive partnership to turn the game in England’s favor. But there was another twist in the tale as two wickets in two balls for Shardul Thakur to remove both batters shifted the tide in India’s favor. There was a late scare from Jofra Archer but India saw the match out.
