India vs England 2021: India survive a stunning Sam Curran knock to take series 2-1
Sam Curran
India clinched victory in the third ODI against England to take the ODI series 2-1 while ensuring that series across all three formats were won in the tour. The third ODI followed the template of the first two matches as well, right from the start as Virat Kohli lost the toss for the third consecutive time and the hosts were put in to bat first for the third time, a pattern that has continued right from the T20I series.
The Indian openers got off to a brisk start and showed a lot more intent than the previous games. However, their opening partnership was broken by some quick strikes that saw Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali remove them as well as skipper Virat Kohli. As KL Rahul too followed, being dismissed by part-timer Liam Livingstone, India seemed to be reeling and were staring at a collapse.
India seal thrilling victory to end the tour
Following the loss of four wickets, Rishabh Pant joined hands with Hardik Pandya and the two came up with trademark explosive knocks to rescue India. They upped the ante and helped keep the scoreboard ticking. Both got half-centuries but were unable to convert them into a hundred. Shardul Thakur then came up with some lusty blows to ensure that the score crossed 320 as a target of 330 was set.
In the chase, Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed both the openers to put India on top. Shardul Thakur then chipped away with three wickets in the middle-order to leave England struggling. Sam Curran then came up with a knock for the ages to ensure there were jitters in the Indian camp. Etching partnerships with the tail, the all-rounder came up with blow after blow and kept England alive till the last over. However, T Natarajan came up with an excellent last over with 14 runs required to clinch it for India.
