In an unusual occurance, an Indian fan at the Dubai International Stadium was seen playfully teasing a Pakistani fan before going on to share a friendly hug. The moment took place immediately after Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya ripped through the Pakistani top-order in the first two overs.
India and Pakistan face each other in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is in fact the first match between the two Asian cricketing giants since the 2025 Champions Trophy. The build-up to this highly anticipated clash was surprisingly subdued, with slow ticket sales reported before the game.
This lack of excitement stemmed from the tense bilateral relations between the two countries, which were on the verge of a full-scale conflict earlier this year following the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Fans and many former cricketers across the country voiced their disapproval towards the BCCI and the Indian government’s decision to give a green-light to the Asia Cup fixture. There were widespread calls for a boycott, with the hashtag ‘#BoycottINDvPAK’ trending on social media. Even the families of victims from the Pahalgam attack had also spoken out, condemning the BCCI for going ahead with the match.
Despite the controversy, the Indian T20I side, endured a fiery start against Pakistan. The Men in Blue were put in to bowl first after Pakistan won the toss. Off the very first ball of the innings, ace Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya dismissed opener Saim Ayub for a golden duck.
Ayub attempted to hit an outswinger from Pandya, but the ball went straight to Jasprit Bumrah at point. India rattled the Pakistani top-order with another wicket off the next over, bowled by Bumrah.
Mohammad Haris tried to go aggressive on Bumrah, but the ball got a top-edge and traveled towards Pandya at square leg, who returned the favor by taking a clean catch. This prompted an Indian fan in the stands to celebrate by dancing and playfully teasing a nearby Pakistani supporter. The Pakistani fan was seen smiling at his team’s difficult situation, and the two ended the moment with a warm hug.

Pakistan’s struggle continued throughout their innings, ending with a below-par total of 127/9. Sahibzada Farhan was the top scorer with 40 runs off 44 balls, while Shaheen Afridi provided a late surge with a blistering 33 off 16. For India, Kuldeep Yadav continued his fine form by taking three crucial wickets.
Pakistani Opener Makes History, After Hitting Jasprit Bumrah for Two Sixes in Asia Cup Clash
Wicket-keeper batter and Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan achieved a unique feat against ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, in the 2025 Asia Cup. The 29-year-old became the first Pakistani batter to hit a six off Bumrah’s delivery in a T20I, as he smashed two sixes.

Before this match, Jasprit Bumrah had bowled 92 balls in five T20Is against Pakistan without conceding a single six. He had taken taken five wickets in four matches before this game, at an outstanding average of 15.20, with an economy of just 5.42. Bumrah’s most notable performance came during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he took three wickets for just 14 runs in a low-scoring thriller.
In the just concluded Asia Cup clash, while Bumrah had taken the early wicket of Mohammad Haris, Sahibzada Farhan switched gears in in the fourth over of Pakistan’s innings. Off the third delivery of Bumrah’s over, he created space to launch the ball over wide long-on for a six. The 29-year-old followed up with another maximum in the sixth over, this time hitting the ball straight into the second tier over backward square.
Sahibzada Farhan ended up as Pakistan’s top-scorer, making a crucial 40 runs off 44 deliveries, including three sixes and one boundary. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah finished his four-over spell with figures of 2 for 28, taking the wickets of Haris and tail-ender Sufiyan Muqeem.
