  • Alexander Zverev seeks his first final at Indian Wells after reaching the semi-finals for the second time this season.
  • Jannik Sinner aims to reach his first final at Indian Wells, having never advanced beyond the semi-finals in previous attempts.
  • Both players have a competitive head-to-head record, with Sinner leading 6-4, including five consecutive wins against Zverev.

Alexander Zverev is in his second tour-level semi-final of the season. He has never been to a final since October last year. The German star is seeking to turn things around at Indian Wells, a tournament he has never gone beyond the last four. He will face World No.2 Jannik Sinner for a place in the championship match.

Sinner finished the first two months of the 2026 season without reaching a final, something that he had not done since 2024. At Indian Wells, he will look to reach his first final and hopefully win the title. But Sinner has never won the Indian Wells Open; his best is reaching the semi-finals.

Alexander Zverev vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Preview

Alexander Zverev kicked off his campaign at the United Cup but struggled with some physical issues. At the Australian Open, he had a good run, reaching the semi-finals of the first Grand Slam tournament. After a three-week break, he returned to the court in Acapulco and won just one match before losing to Miomir Kecmanović in a three-set match.

The World No.4 arrived at the Indian Wells Open having played only two tour-level tournaments this season. However, that wasn’t a concern as he breezed past Matteo Berrettini before overcoming Brandon Nakashima 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4 in the third round. In the round of 16, he got the better of Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4. He followed it by another impressive 6-2, 6-3 against the Frenchman Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Jannik Sinner opened his 2026 campaign at the Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to Novak Djokovic. At the Doha Open, he got to the quarter-finals before he was stunned by Jakub Mensik in three sets. After taking a two-week break, he returned to the court in Indian Wells, a tournament he missed last year due to suspension for doping.

He opened his account at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament with a win over Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1. He then downed Canadian star Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament for the fifth consecutive time. He got the better of Joao Fonseca in straight sets before impressively winning 6-1, 6-2 against the 25th-seeded Learner Tien.

Alexander Zverev vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Prediction

Alexander Zverev has won 11 of his 14 matches this season, while Jannik Sinner has won 13 of his 14 matches. Both players are in their second semi-finals of the season, having played in three tournaments. Also, both players have equalled their best-ever result at Indian Wells and will be eager to reach their maiden final in the California desert.

However, they have met each other ten times on the court. Sinner leads their head-to-head record 6-4 against the German star. Zverev had the upper hand early in their rivalry, winning four of their first five matches, but the Italian star has won their last five meetings, including a 6-4, 6-3 win at the ATP Finals in November.

Zverev has been playing great tennis at Indian Wells and looked unstoppable against Arthur Fils in the quarter-finals. But Sinner is yet to drop a set at the tournament. The World No.2 has also found a way to always beat Zverev, no matter how well the German star performs on the court. It will be a very tough clash between the two as they will challenge for every point, but Sinner has the upper hand here.

Match Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
