- Elina Svitolina has lost only three matches this season and has one title, reaching multiple semi-finals.
- Iga Swiatek has struggled for consistency this season and has not reached a tour-level semi-final yet.
- The quarter-final match between Svitolina and Swiatek will take place on March 12, 2025, at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Elina Svitolina has lost just three matches this season, which is a remarkable feat for the 31-year-old, who looks rejuvenated on the court after taking a four-month break last year. She already has one title to show for this year and has been in two or three semi-finals. The ninth seed will now take on the second seed, Iga Swiatek, in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Swiatek has not reached a tour-level semi-final this season. The 24-year-old has not lived up to expectations since the Australian Open, but even though her consistency is seriously questioned, she knows how to spring genuine surprise on the court. She will be aiming to do that against the in-form Svitolina.

Elina Svitolina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Preview
Elina Svitolina opened her 2026 account by winning the Auckland Classic after beating Xinyu Wang. The Ukrainian then reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, but fell to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. Svitolina got back to winning ways at the Dubai Tennis Championships, reaching her second final of the season.
However, she lost the Dubai title to Jessica Pegula in straight sets. At Indian Wells, she had to fight her way past Laura Siegemund in three sets and then eased past Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 6-2. In the third round, she led Mirra Andreeva’s conqueror, Katerina Siniakova, 6-1, 1-1 before the Czech Republic star decided to retire due to injury.

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, kicked off her campaign this season at the United Cup, winning the title for Poland. She failed to complete her career Grand Slam, losing to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals. The former World No.1 then lost to Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open.
The 2024 Indian Wells champion beat Kayla Day and Sakkari in straight sets in the second and third rounds. In the fourth round, she came out best against the 13th seed and Qatar Open champion Karolina Muchova 6-2, 6-0, sealing her place in the quarter-finals for the third consecutive season.
Elina Svitolina vs. Iga Swiatek: Match Prediction
Elina Svitolina has been one of the most surprising stars of the season. The Ukrainian star is back in the top 10 and has won 18 of her 21 matches this year. Having won a title in Auckland, reached the semifinals in Melbourne, and the final in Dubai, she has confidence that she can beat any top player on the women’s circuit.

The 31-year-old is a tough nut to crack when at her best, and that was noticeable against Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Gauff played well, especially in the second set, but Svitolina won the crucial moments of the game. However, she has beaten Iga Swiatek only once on tour.
Swiatek has the upper hand against Svitolina when it comes to their head-to-head record, as she leads 4-1. Their most recent meetings came at the 2025 French Open, which Swiatek won in straight sets. The Polish will be seeking to get the better of Svitolina as she’s yet to drop a set at the Indian Wells Open. Additionally, she has dropped just 13 games at the WTA 1000 tournament and has won a set 6-0 on two occasions.
Match Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win three sets.
