Jannik Sinner vs. Learner Tien: Match Preview
Jannik Sinner is chasing his first title of the season. Before arriving at Indian Wells, the Italian ace played the Australian Open and the Qatar Open, where his run ended before the final. It was the first time since the 2024 season that Sinner suffered exits in two consecutive events without progressing to the title clash.

In Melbourne, Sinner was chasing his third consecutive title, but eventual runner-up Novak Djokovic dashed his hopes, defeating him in five sets in the semifinals. Later in the Doha ATP 500 event, the World No.2 lost to Jakub Mensik in the quarterfinals.
Before his career’s first meeting with Fonseca, Sinner eliminated Dalibor Svrcina and Denis Shapovalov in his first two matches. The former World No.1 was forced to skip last year’s Sunshine Doubles events because of his three-month doping ban.
Tien is competing in his fifth tournament this season. Last year at Indian Wells, he suffered a first-round exit. Before arriving in the California desert, the 20-year-old lost to Tommy Paul in the semifinal of the Delray Beach Open. He has yet to reach another semifinal this season.
Before scheduling his match against Sinner, Tien battled past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He was the reason why Ben Shelton failed to progress to the fourth round. In his Indian Wells opener, the 25th seed eliminated Adam Walton.
Tien made his Masters 1000 debut at Indian Wells last year, and except for the Monte Carlo Masters, he featured in every tournament of this level.
Jannik Sinner vs. Learner Tien: Match Prediction
Sinner is the winner of 24 titles, seven of which he lifted in the Masters 1000 events. The last time he won a title at this level was at the 2025 Paris Masters by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Last year, Sinner reached three Masters 1000 finals, winning the Paris Masters and losing the Italian Open and the Cincinnati Masters to Carlos Alcaraz. The 24-year-old has yet to win a title since clinching the 2025 ATP Finals by defeating the seven-time Grand Slam champion.
Last year, despite his doping ban, the four-time Grand Slam champion played 10 finals and lifted six titles, including the Australian Open by defeating Alexander Zverev and Wimbledon by defeating Alcaraz. Sinner won four Big Titles last year.
Tien, however, has yet to clinch a Big Title. The 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals champion has so far won one ATP title. Last year at the Moselle Open, he lost to Cameron Norrie in three sets. Prior to the French event, Tien played his career’s first tour-level final against Sinner at the China Open and lost that match. The upcoming match will be their second meeting.
Match prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
