“Glorified male violence” – Internet ERUPTS as gender-test failed Imane Khelif makes female opponent quit in 46 seconds at Paris Olympics

The Paris Olympics 2024 allowed previously gender-test failed athletes to participate in women’s boxing events these Olympics. In doing that, they allowed Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting to participate, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding their inclusion after the International Boxing Association disqualified them from previous events. Today, it all came crashing down as Italian boxer Angela Carini quit seconds into her match against Khelif, igniting the internet in the process.
The boxing bout started with both Imane Khelif and Angela Carini probing each other for a few seconds. Then, the Algerian boxer feinted left and unleashed her right hand on the left part of her jaw. The Italian boxer took two more steps and then raised her hand towards her corner. After she spoke with her coaches, they signaled to the referee that she was withdrawing from the bout.
The referee then raised Imane Khelif’s hand signaling she won due to abandonment. But then, Angela Carini dropped to her knees and broke down crying. The visuals of this entire scenario have since gone viral. Even to those who aren’t sports fans, the hit from Khelif seemed too hard for a woman.
This is the 25-year-old’s second Olympics representing Italy. After her exit in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the round of 16, she was hoping to improve and fight for a medal.
Imane Khelif’s win sets the internet on fire
Imane Khelif gets an automatic berth in the women’s 66kg Quarterfinals after this result. But it brings forth the question among fans whether including gender-test failed boxers just for the sake of sport is fair to women. Fans feel that women are being treated unfairly just to satisfy the woke culture the IOC are supporting through the Paris Olympics 2024. However, it is worth noting that Khelif is not proven to be transgender.
The internet space is running wild with comments from sporting as well as non-sporting fans across the world. Naturally, most of them are calling for the IOC to disqualify Imane Khelif and award the win to Angela Carini. Check out some of those reactions below:
The International Olympic Committee have yet to officially react to this development. Naturally, they will have a lot to think about. The situation may be dangerous to the women who are participating in the Olympics. They have to make it fair for all.
