The fans are, once again, eager to witness humungous sixes and sumptuous drives on television. 2019 edition saw David Warner setting the tournament alight with some breath-taking knocks. Turning up for SRH in 12 games, Warner ended up as the highest run-getter in the tournament. He scored 692 runs at an average and strike rate of 69.20 and 143.87. It would be interesting to see he retains the Orange Cap this year or someone else win it in 2020.
In this article, we look at the list of 5 players who can win the ‘ORANGE Cap’ in IPL 2020:
5. KL Rahul: Kings XI Punjab
KL Rahul lit the tournament last season with heart-warming knocks. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 593 runs to his name. KL Rahul will be leading Kings Eleven Punjab in IPL 2020. He is expected to continue his fine run with the bat this year as well.
In his illustrious career, KL Rahul has scored 1977 in 67 matches at an average of 42.06 and a strike rate of 138. He would be eying the orange cap in IPL 2020.
4. Andre Russell: Kolkata Knight Riders
Andre Russell has been scoring consistently in IPL for the last few years. The West Indies all-rounder wreaked havoc last season while playing for KKR. He was the highest run-scorer for the franchise in 2019. Ahead of 2020 edition, KKR is pondering over the decision to send Russell at as high as number three position in the batting order. If that happens, then he might win the orange cap this year.
3. David Warner: Sunrisers Hyderabad
David Warner scored over 500 runs in every season he has played since 2014. He was the leading run-getter last season and is expected to continue his fine run in IPL 2020 as well. He will be leading SRH in IPL 2020. Given the kind of form he is in and that he opens the innings, too, there is a substantial possibility that he might win the purple cap for the second consecutive time.
For those of you who don’t know, David Warner has won orange cap for the most number of times in the history of the league. He finished as the leading run scorer in the tournament for as many as three times. He won the orange cap in 2015, 2017 and 2019. He would be eyeing to win the title for the fourth time.
2. Jos Buttler: Rajasthan Royals
The English wicket-keeper batsman is the man to watch out for. Jos Buttler is at the top of his game right now. He recently played two outstanding knocks against Australia in the first and second T20 match of the three-match series.
Buttler had two great seasons with the bat in 2018 and 2019 with Rajasthan Royals in the last two editions. He is expected to give his best performance in IPL 2020.
1. Virat Kohli: Royal Challengers Bangalore
The run-machine, Virat Kohli sits at the top of the list. Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the history of IPL. He has scored 5412 runs in 177 matches at an average of 37.84. Virat Kohli would look to replicate a similar performance which he showcased in 2016.
While he has scored the most number of runs in the tournament’s history, Virat is yet to win an IPL trophy. He would look to top the run-charts and thereby help his side clinch the title this year.
