The Indian Premier League (IPL) season 13 ended with Mumbai Indians adding their fifth title in their trophy cabinet. Mumbai played like a champion team throughout the season and successfully defended the title. The 13th edition of the IPL was one of the most entertaining seasons in the history of the tournament. The season witnessed thrilling encounters, dominating displays, and record-breaking performances.

The group stages of IPL 2020 were so close that it required the last game to decide the final qualifier of the season. In the end, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Delhi qualified for the last four. Eventually, Mumbai and Delhi fought each other in the finals and Mumbai emerged victorious. A majority of factors such as conditions, slowness of wicket, dew factor played a crucial role in the UAE. However, Mumbai adapted to the conditions quickly which helped them quite much in their journey.

The players in every team had some mixed performances in the tournament, some This season’s IPL was a memorable one for some players while it turned out to be a catastrophic one for a few. Some big names failed to live up to their reputation which also resulted in their team’s performance.

5. Prithvi Shaw

Mumbai based opening batsman, Prithvi Shaw started IPL 2020 on a high and brought up his first fifty of the tournament. The youngster later on lost his touch and failed to perform his best for the team. He managed to pile up 228 runs in 13 games for the Delhi Capitals in total. His average but remained as low as 17.53 in the tournament.

At one stage he lost his confidence completely which cost the side dearly. He was replaced by Ajinkya Rahane after a poor show where he made 6 single-digit scores and 3 scores of 0 runs. His lack of form could be an issue for the Indian team as well where he is selected for the Test side for the Australian tour.

4. Dinesh Karthik

This was one of the worst performances for Dinesh Karthik in his last four years if the IPL. He could score just 169 runs in his 14 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders. Karthik could score just one half-century this season, even though getting ample opportunities.

He even decided to let go off the captaincy of the franchise in order to focus more on his batting. However the decision wasn’t fruitful as his batting display deteriorated. This was one of the season’s to forget for Dinesh Karthik in his illustrious IPL career as he could help his team qualify for the playoffs of the tournament in the end.

3. Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell was the second-highest-paid player in Dream11 IPL 2020 after KKR pacer Pat Cummins. He earned a whopping 10.75 crores for the Kings XI Punjab, which resulted in a bidding war between KXIP and DC. The talented player possesses all-around capabilities and can win matches with his individual brilliance.

However this wasn’t the case for Maxwell this year who struggled on the UAE’s dry and slow pitches. He managed just 108 runs in 13 games for the KXIP and picked 3 wickets to his tally. A disappointing display for a player of caliber like Maxwell. What makes his batting stats even worse is that the Australian could only hit 9 boundaries and 0 sixes in the entire season.

2. Andre Russell

Dre Russ was perhaps the most surprising performance by a player in IPL 2020. This is due to the fact that Russell was voted the most valuable player for the last season where he annihilated the entire bowling lineup of opposing teams. Last year the Jamaican had a strike rate of 204 in the tournament.

This year he could manage just 118 runs in 10 games with 25 being his highest score. He wasn’t able to score a single half-century and picked 6 wickets for the side. He even remained sidelined from the team due to injury concerns in between. A dip in his performance definitely cost KKR in IPL 2020.

The worst season in IPL 2020 this year was for retired Indian skipper MS Dhoni. The veteran became the first player to play 200 matches in the history of IPL this season. This was an instrumental season for Dhoni who returned to the cricketing field after retiring from all formats of Cricket in the national team.

Fans were eager to see Dhoni back in action after a long time. However, it was a calamity for the CSK skipper who failed to register a single IPL fifty for the first time in 13 seasons of the IPL. Dhoni could make only 200 runs in 14 games of the tournament. This also the lowest score by him in any of the season’s tally. A huge setback for the CSK team, a result of which the whole team looked out of form. Subsequently, CSK became the first team to lose the race for the IPL 2020 playoffs.
