Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) batter Chris Gayle has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for beaching Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Gayle was terrific for KXIP as he shone with an innings of 99 runs against RR that saw Gayle putting on a six-hitting spectacle. Gayle took his side to a of 185 runs. The innings also saw Gayle hit his 1000th T20 six. No other player has hit in excess of 700 sixes in T20s.

Gayle fell just one run short of a well-deserved century when he was castled by a Jofra Archer delivery. In the end, Gayle’s innings and KXIP’s score of 185 went in vain as RR chased the score down courtesy Ben Stokes’ fifty and some brisk hitting by the likes of Robin Uthappa, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith.

One of the moments that caught everyone’s eye during yesterday’s match was Gayle’s angry reaction to his dismissal. As soon as the bails were dislodged, Gayle flung his bat in anger. His bat spiraled out of his hand and fell on the far end of the pitch. However, Gayle regained his composure soon after and was seen shaking Archer’s hand appreciating him for his beauty of a delivery.

For the reaction, Gayle has been fined 10 percent of the match fee. “Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” an IPL release stated. “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
