Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 90 runs inning for RCB stood out to be the difference between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK stand defeated once more while chasing a target that they have failed to do five times now out of seven.
Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first, meaning CSK batting second for the seventh successive time in IPL 2020. Virat Kohli’s 90 runs powered RCB to 169/4 in 20 overs with supportive partnerships of Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube.
CSK chasing 170 runs lost both the openers within the powerplay itself and were reduced to 25-2 in the sixth over. The in-form opening duo of Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis made 14 and 8 runs respectively. Narayan Jagadeeshan was included in place of Kedar Jadhav who showed some glimpse of his batting in a 33 run debut start in IPL career. Ambati Rayudu was the one who struck to the chase until the 18th over after being dismissed by Udana. Skipper MS Dhoni looked in a different gear but was out caught in the deep.
Later on CSK batsmen kept falling and ended with 132/8 thus losing by a margin of 37 runs. All-rounder Chris Morris added more balance to the RCB lineup and picked up 3/19 while Sundar picked 2/16 in three overs.
Virat Kohli’s favorite opposition – CSK
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bat first, making it Chennai to chase yet another game of IPL 2020. In fact all of the 7 games of IPL, CSK have batted second.
RCB’s start was faded after Finch was dismissed in the third over by Deepak Chahar. Next walked in RCB skipper Virat Kohli, who was in a different mood against one of his favorite opposition teams of IPL. Kohli has scored 747 runs against CSK which is the highest by any batsmen in IPL.
Kohli and Padikkal made a 53 run stand for the second wicket after Padikkal got out to Shardul Thakur. Thakur brought CSK back into the game after dismissing Mr. 360 Ab De Villiers for a two-ball duck. However, Kohli did not stop and continued to attack the CSK bowling. Kohli played shots everywhere in the ground, he even played an ABD’s trademark sweep shot and had a laugh afterward.
Kohli struck 90 runs off 52 balls slamming four sixes and four boundaries. Washington Sundar played a cameo partnership with Kohli and Shivam Dube helped finish the innings alongside Kohli at 169/4. Thakur picked two good wickets but went for 40 runs while Chahar conceded just 10 runs in his three overs for a wicket.
With this win CSK move down to 6th place in IPL 2020 points table with just two wins and four points. RCB on the other hand enjoy their 4th win in IPL 2020 and are in the fourth spot.
