Kings XI Punjab found themselves in a tight situation yet again this season and this time against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Defending a modest 126, KXIP failed to put pressure with the new ball and the match was slipping way from them. But some disciplined bowling from their spinners in the middle overs helped them crawl back into the game. And it was down to defend 30 runs from as many balls for them.
It is then some unlikely faces stepped up and pulled off the feat for KXIP. It was Chris Jordan and young Arshdeep Singh. The duo, which was the perfect mix of youth and experience, picked up 5 wickets to hand their side a 12 run victory. It was the first time we saw Arshdeep operate in the death but he held his nerve to defend 14 off the last over.
Arshdeep has been brilliant
His bowling partner Jordan was very impressed the way young Arshdeep stepped up at the right moment. The England all-rounder hails Arshdeep’s mind for the success he has had this season. The young Punjab quick 9 wickets from six games he played this season.
“Arshdeep has been brilliant since he’s come in; he’s brought in a free mind, free spirit. He’s not that experienced and I think that’s helped because he’s just backed himself,” Hindustan Times quoted Jordan.
With this excellent performance against SRH, the KXIP bowling is looking in great touch as the side look to book a playoff spot. Punjab face KKR today at Abu Dhabi today.
