The match 9 of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed mind-blowing gameplay between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab. Steve Smith and co. took the match away from the jaws of defeat with 4 wickets in hand. RR batsmen Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia played unbelievable knocks to win the game for their team.
After winning the toss, RR skipper Steve Smith elected to field first and his side made two changes in the playing XI. Jos Buttler and Ankit Rajpoot came into the side for David Miller and Yashasvi Jaiswal. On the other hand, KXIP played this game with an unchanged XI after they decided to go with the winning combination.
Dream start from KXIP openers
Kings XI Punjab openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal played tremendously where the latter also went on to score his maiden IPL century. On the other hand, last match’s hero Rahul played a supportive role with his knock of 69 runs. As a result, the Punjab-based franchise posted a massive total of 223-2 on the board after their 20 overs.
None of the Rajasthan bowlers had a decent outing as all of them leaked many runs throughout the innings.
Memorable game for Rahul Tewatia
Rajasthan Royals opened their innings with Jos Buttler and Steve Smith, but the former got out cheaply inside the powerplay. Steve Smith played well for his quick half-century while it was Sanju Samson who kept their hopes alive till the end.
Samson played a blissful knock of 85 runs off just 42 deliveries, but Rahul Tewatia emerged as the hero of the match in the end. At one stage where he was struggling to even connect the ball, he went on to smash 30 runs in a single over off Sheldon Cottrell. With two sixes from Jofra Archer in the penultimate over, RR clinched the game with three remaining deliveries. This run-chase also became the highest ever successful run-chase in IPL history.
