The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chief mentor David Hussey indicated the possibility of moving up star all-rounder Andre Russell in the batting line-up, owing to his hitting prowess and ability to score big runs.

Hussey affirmed that if Russell gets 60 balls to bat, he even has the capability to score a double hundred in the cash-rich tournament.

Hussey also stated that there were a few negligence committed by the franchise in the previous leg of the tournament, which cost them their place in the playoffs. But this year, KKR will look to rectify their misjudgements.

“If it benefits the team and helps us win games of cricket, why not? If that means Andre Russell comes in at three and bats 60 balls, he might actually make a double hundred. Anything can happen with Dre Russ,” David Hussey was quoted as saying by IANS.

Furthermore, Hussey opined that the big-hitting Jamaican is the heartbeat of KKR. Russell was the most valuable player in the 2019 edition of IPL, piling 510 runs from 13 innings with an impressive average of 56.55. He also picked 11 wickets.

“A fantastic player, he (Andre Russell) is probably the heartbeat of the team as well. We’ve actually got really a well-balanced team… Anyone can bat in any position. But if it benefits the team, why not, why can’t he bat up the list?” David Hussey said.

The 2020 edition of the IPL will commence from September 19th. KKR will be the last team to play their first match of the tournament against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 23.
