Delhi Capitals (DC) have suffered a huge blow ahead of their opening match of 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday. Reportedly, senior fast bowler Ishant Sharma has injured himself during training and is likely to miss the team’s opener at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

Ishant injured his back during a training session ahead of Delhi Capital’s opening match in Dubai, according to report in Cricbuzz. Meanwhile, Ishant’s presence will be missed by Shreyas-led Delhi Capitals.

Ishant is among Delhi’s frontline pace options after a good year with the franchise in 2019. After missing IPL 2018, Ishant made comeback with 13 wickets from as many games for Delhi in 2019 with the economy of 7.58.

In the recent past, Ishant has been through a lot of injuries which has also affected his form on the field. The 32-year-old did comeback in February to play in Test series against New Zealand but ended up injuring the ankle.

In Ishant’s absence, Delhi Capitals have other Indian options in the team with the likes of Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma or Avesh Khan. Subsequently, the miss-match combination will be worked as a headache for both captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting.

In the spin department, DC has two experienced veteran spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra who could definitely create problems for the opponents in Dubai. Axar Patel can also prove as an asset for the Delhi with both bat and the ball.
