Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni confirmed that today’s match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League won’t be his last match for his franchise. Dhoni has been leading the CSK franchise right from its inception. He was picked up for a cost of $1.5 million during the first auction in 2008. The wicketkeeper-batsman had led his side to the playoffs in every season they had been a part of (CSK didn’t participate in the IPL in 2016 and 2017).

However, this year Dhoni has struggled with form. His struggles have mirrored that of the team as they find themselves languishing at the bottom spot on the points table. The ageing team has struggled with intent and has failed to close out games like they used to in the past. A plethora of questions have been raised on the skipper’s and the team’s form. There have been a lot of calls from for Dhoni to retire after the IPL. But Dhoni seems determined to continue at least for another year.

‘Definitely not’ – Dhoni dismisses IPL retirement

At the toss, ahead of CSK’s game against KXIP, the first question that was asked by commentator Danny Morrison to MS Dhoni was whether today’s game would be the last game in the IPL for the CSK skipper. Dhoni was quick to dismiss him resoundingly with a smile saying, “Definitely not”. Dhoni didn’t add on to the statement but all but assured everybody that he is primed to continue playing for CSK.

CSK won the toss and chose to field first. CSK have nothing to play for in today’s game as they are already out of contention for the playoffs. That is not the case with KXIP however as they would need a win to qualify for the playoffs.
