IPL 2020: MS Dhoni reveals why Dwayne Bravo didn’t bowl the last over

Delhi Capitals (DC) continue with their magnificent run in the tournament with yet another victory over last year’s runner-ups Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Shreyas Iyer and co beat CSK by five wickets to remain at the top of the Points Table. Moreover, Chennai’s chances of qualification look further rued with this defeat.
CSK were in a commanding position till the 19th over of the opposition’s innings. Scoring 17 runs off the last over was never going to be an easy job for the Capitals batsmen. CSK had multiple bowling options at that time in the form of Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja and Karn Sharma. Everyone expected Bravo to bowl the ultimate over, but surprising all, Dhoni gave the ball to Jadeja.
He ended up conceding three sixes off Axar Patel, and the latter clinched a victory from the jaws of defeat. During the post-match presentation ceremony, MS Dhoni revealed that Bravo was not fit, and was even not there in the ground during that time.
“Bravo was not fit. He went out and didn’t come back. The options were Jaddu and Karn. I went with Jaddu,” said the CSK skipper MSD when asked about the final over after the match.
Can’t take credit away from Dhawan: Dhoni
MS Dhoni admitted that they could not afford to drop Shikhar Dhawan multiple times during the match. The latter went on to score a brilliant century in the game off just 58 deliveries.
“Shikhar’s wicket was important, but we dropped him quite several times. If he keeps batting, he will keep the strike rate high. Also, the wicket played better in the second half, but we can’t take the credit away from Shikhar,” Dhoni added.
“A positive was Sam’s last over. He needs convincing he can execute the wide yorkers. He is not usually confident with that, but today he did well with that. So that is one ball that can be difficult to hit,” he concluded.
