It was a thrilling encounter at Abu Dhabi last night as a resilient Sunrisers Hyderabad took on a fired-up Delhi Capitals to decide the second finalist of Indian Premier League 2020. It was Delhi’s young brigade who earned their maiden go a the silverware. But the David Warner led side didn’t go down without a fight. SRH were all but in the game until Kagiso Rabada‘s impressive penultimate over of the game snatched the victory away.

Having lost the top order early, yet again, all the burden was once again on Kane Williamson‘s shoulders. The Kiwi skipper played a responsible innings of 67 to take the game away from DC before falling prey to the pressure of a steadily rising required run rate. It was his wicket which proved to be the difference between the sides at the end of the day as DC clinched a comfortable win by 17 runs.

Delhi picked themselves up from the floor

Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock is in awe of Williamson’s effort. He went on to brand the knock as the New Zealander’s best in the league. Pollock shares that the way SRH fought and everyone contributed with the bat is what makes them a great side. But at the end of the day, the “individual brilliance” of Shikhar Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis, Rabada. And some great fielding efforts saw DC through to their maiden IPL final.

He (Kane Williamson) was brilliant for his 60 odd, probably the best innings he played in the IPL for me. I know there had been some good ones but for me, it is as good as it gets and then everyone contributed. And afterward at one stage, hold on, you never know here. They might just be able to sneak over the line, it was starting to get exciting. But at the end, the scoreboard pressure played its part and it was always gonna be a big ask,” Pollock said on Cricbuzz Live.

We say that at the half time that they are almost like a 175 time and anything underneath that, they can chase. But once they have to rely on the firepower at the back end it was always gonna be difficult. So Delhi, they picked themselves up from the floor and have managed to get themselves into the final.

Delhi made some bold changes in their squad for the crucial game and it paid off for them. Let it be promoting Stoinis up the order or backing their pace spearhead Rabada even after a string of bad outings, DC didn’t put a foot wrong in the second qualifier as they earned a spot in the final against Mumbai Indians.
