IPL 2020 UAE: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Team Profile Overview, Stats, Auctions Analysis, Season-Wise Performance, Full Schedule and Squad

RCB 1

Royal Challengers Bangalore have never been short of world-class players in their set-up. Despite that, no other team has disappointed more than RCB in IPL history. In the last three seasons, their performance has been nothing but below-par.

They have reached the finals on three occasions. But that too is a thing of past. For the last three seasons, they have remained at the bottom of the table.

But do they have learnt anything from their mistakes? Has RCB worked on their weaknesses? Could we see a different team this year?

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Team Overview

Strengths:

There is no denying that RCB’s batting has been their biggest strength over the years. However, it also goes without saying that it majorly revolves around Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. The duo holds the responsibility for making majority of runs. But just one or two batsmen won’t win you tournament as big as IPL.

Ahead of IPL 2020, the franchise has added Aaron Finch, who would certainly bolster the batting attack. Besides, the middle order comprises the likes of Moeen Ali, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube.

The batting looks quite decent on paper but it all depends on how they performs at the big stage.

Stong spin attack:

Given the pitches in UAE are likely to help spinners and slow bowlers, RCB would be pretty happy with their selections. The team boasts of a solid spin attack, comprising of Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Pavan Negi and Moeen Ali. All 4 players are going to be the vital cogs in the team in this year’s IPL.

Weaknesses:

It is no secret that RCB’s biggest weakness over the last few years has been their death bowling. The likes of Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj leaked a plethora runs at the death in 2019.

What about this year?

Dale Steyn is past his prime and has had fitness concerns. New recruit, Chris Morris too hasn’t been too economical at the death in the last couple of years. Senior bowler Umesh Yadav isn’t a regular in limited over’s format.

While fans would expect them to come good this year, RCB’s death bowling woes are likely to haunt them once again.

Middle-order concerns

Young Indian players such as Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube and Chris Morris are likely to form the lower-middle order for RCB. Both the Indian players haven’t done anything substantial with the bat in world cricket. Both are talented blocks, but to expect them to finish matches on a regular basis would be too much to ask for. While Morris has got the ability to tonk maximums, you don’t expect him to do it on a consistent basis, either.
