IPL 2020 : “Six Perfect Yorkers” Rahul lauds Shami after he pulls off a Jasprit Bumrah against MI
Mohammad Shami Kings XI Punjab
What a Sunday it was in IPL 2020 as we witneeesed not one, not two but three super overs in a single day. But what stands out in all three of them is Mohammed Shami’s phenomenal pace bowling as he went on to defend 6 uns in five balls. After 40 overs, Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians were locked in a tie and the game went into a super over.
KXIP batted first but were able to score only 5 runs despite Jasprit Bumrah struggling to land the yorker. Punjab lost two wickets with only 5 on board in the super over. It looked like it will one of those games again where Punjab loses from a commanding position.
Six “perfect” yorkers in superover by Shami
But Shami had other plans as he stepped up to defend six runs for his side. And boy, he did step up, bowling six perfect yorkers to take the game to another super over. What made his effort even more better was the fact that he bowled to two inform batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. But he didnt flinch for a moment and backed himself up to save his side from the dire situation.
Skipper KL Rahul was all praises for his teammate after the game. He shared how he had to trust his pace spearhead and it paid off. Rahul adds that Shami had made up his mind to bowl six yorkers and the senior pro’s accuracy did the rest
“You can never prepare for Super Overs. No team does. So you have to trust your bowler’s gut. You trust your bowler, and let them believe their instinct and gut,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.
“He (Shami) was very clear he wanted to go six yorkers. He has been phenomenal, and keeps getting better every game. It is important that senior players win the games for the team.”
This their second close win in two games. And the skipper asked his side not to make a habit of such wins. Rahul is haunted by the close calls they lost this season.
“It is not the first time. But we don’t want to make a habit out of it. We will take the two points in the end. It doesn’t always happen the way you plan so you don’t really know how to stay balanced.I was just hoping we get over the line because the boys have been working really really hard. In the games that we have lost, even then we have played well and just not been able to get over the line,” Rahul concluded.
