IPL 2020: Sunil Narine dropped from KKR line-up; Tom Banton makes debut
Sunil Narine
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have dropped Sunil Narine from their playing XI for the Indian Premier League match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Narine was reported by the umpires for suspect bowling action in KKR’s win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He was let go with a warning but it was made clear that another report would lead to him getting banned from the IPL.
Sunil Narine has been an integral part of the KKR line-up over the course of the IPL. His mystery spin has been masterful and difficult to read. However, his action has come under scrutiny a lot of times. Having already been reported in the past, he was against reported after the match against KXIP where he emerged as the hero with the ball. It was already speculated that KKR might drop Narine in order to not risk him being reported again.
Tom Banton to make KKR debut
In place of Sunil Narine, KKR have chosen English wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Banton. This will be Banton’s first appearance in the IPL. The Englishman has already been lighting up the Australian Big Bash League and English T20 Blast. He has already made his debut for England and is considered one of the hottest prospects in T20 cricket. Usually an opener, Banton can also play in the middle order. It will be interesting to watch where he bats at in the KKR line-up.
