IPL 2020: “Suryakumar Yadav has a burning desire to wear India blue” says Kieron Pollard
On October 29th, Mumbai Indians (MI) marked a five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2020. MI skipper, Kieron Pollard was all praises for young talent, Suryakumar Yadav and credits performance in the MI vs RCB match.
“It (Yadav’s innings) was very, very valuable. We always spoke about one of the top three batters, or top four batters, bat all the way through if you are chasing, go all the way through and win the game for us. He (Surya) has done that more often than not,” Pollard said at the post-match media conference.
Yadav played incredible innings and scored an unbeaten 79 off 43 balls. His score helped MI chase down the target and secure two points after beating RCB.
This incredible knock from the 30 year old batsman, came after he was omitted from the Indian squad of Australia tour. His exclusion despite a consistent performance has raised many eyebrows.
“…he wants to do well and today again he showed his class on how well he can bat…and deep down inside the burning desire to don that blue, but again he continues to show consistency, which is all that he can do as an individual,” Kieron Pollard said.
The West Indian cricketer further said, “burning desire” to wear the India blue.
“Deep down inside he must be very, very disappointed to not have donned the blue for India,” Pollard said “He just keeps getting better. Again, as an individual if you keep staying consistent, you will be rewarded. Nothing happens before its time. There is discussion around my batting position, I would love to be up there, taking the runs and hitting the runs, but we have to do what is the best for the team.”
MI vs RCB: Win was “a total team effort in terms of the bowl”, said Pollard
Apart from Suryakumar Yadav’s success in maintaining his strike rate despite two early wickets, Pollard believes that a team effort in bowling helped the franchise chase down 165 against RCB.
“Bumrah coming back and getting wickets, Boulty (Trent Boult) as well, Krunal Pandya bowling four economical overs, so again, was a total team in terms of the bowl and restricting them was very good for us,” the skipper added.
Pollard himself took the wicket of AB DeVilliers. And believes it was an important wicket or else the the momentum could have shifted in RCB’s favour.
“Luckily, I came on at that time and got the wicket of AB with an innocuous delivery that could have gone straight for six and the momentum would have been straight on them. A bit of luck on our side, but the guys really bowled well,” added Pollard.
“I try to analyse. I got the wicket of ABD. We can’t just depend on Bumrah. But we would want other guys to step up as it is a team game,” he added further.
According to Pollard, it was really important for them to secure two points in this game and they came out as a team and got the points. MI is currently topping the table and will clash against Delhi Capitals on 31st October.
