IPL 2020 : Kris Srikkanth slams Dhoni’s for his “CSK youngsters missing spark” comment
It looks like Chennai Super Kings have reached the end of the line in IPL 2020 as they were handed their 7th defeat by Rajasthan Royals. RR slammed CSK by 7 wickets the other night to crush their playoff hopes. When asked about his side’s performance this season, CSK skipper MS Dhoni cited “lack of spark in youngsters” for the same.
This comment of his has sent Kris Srikkanth into a fit of rage. The former India skipper, Srikkanth slammed Dhoni as he went on to question the selection process of the side. He adds that the likes of Narayan Jagadeesan and Karn Sharma showed “spark” but werent given chances. He outright refused to accept such excuses from Dhoni, who himself is struggling this season.
“I won’t accept what Dhoni is saying. This talk of process, process… I won’t agree with that. You’re talking about process, but the process of selection itself is wrong,” he was quoted as saying by India Today.
“By saying that they will give opportunities from now to youngsters… come on, Jagadeesan showed some spark,” he further added.
Srikkanth questions Dhoni’s strategies
CSK’s major problem has been the middle, let it be with the bat or ball. Their Indian players have failed to step up in crunch situations. The other itself was testimony to that. Although they lost Shane Watsona and Faf du Plesis early on, Ambati Rayudu, Sam Curran and MS Dhoni got starts. But failed to change gears when the time came. It was due to Ravindra Jadeja’s 30 off 25 balls they were able to touch the 120 run mark.
Dhoni’s usage of veteran Piyush Chawla met a lot of scrutiny last night. Both Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazzlewood gave CSK the perfect start with some phenomenal swing bowling. But they threw it off not bringing on spinners right after to tighten their hold.
Srikkanth feels that Karn Sharma would haved had been a better choice over Chawla. Sharma has picked up wickets although he has been expensive in the middle.
“At least Karn Sharma was getting wickets even if he was expensive. Piyush Chawla was brought into the attack after the match was done and dusted. Dhoni is a great cricketer, there is no doubt about that but I won’t accept him saying that the ball didn’t grip. I won’t accept that,” Kris stressed.
Having handed their 7th loss in 10 games, CSK’s campaign this year is virtually over. Although they still have a chance to qualify, mathematically, it is looking unlikely with the given state of the side. Only a miracle now can help them save their 100% playoff record.
