In the 2019 Indian Premier League trade window, Delhi Capitals surprised one and all as they traded off New Zealand quick Trent Boult to Mumbai Indians. Boult was exceptional for DC in 2018 with 18 wickets but lost his place in the side in 2019 as he featured in only 5 games.

But he bounced back strongly in his maiden season for MI and scalped a whopping 25 wickets. The left-arm quick also went on to equal Australian great Mitchell Johnson‘s record of most wickets in the powerplay in a season with his 16 wickets.

The move came back to bite the Capitals in the playoffs as Boult rattled their top order not once but twice. Boult dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane for ducks in the first over of the first qualifier. And in the final on Tuesday, the left-arm quick dismissed Marcus Stoinis and Rahane in his first two overs as he finished with three wickets in the game.

Former Delhi opener Virender Sehwag is not happy with the move and points out that it has been the case for the Capitals over the years. He adds that the franchise has let go of great players like AB de Villiers, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell earlier and have faced the same consequences as happened with Boult.

Trent Boult is not the only player which Delhi Capitals have let go of. They let AB de Villiers go who has done wonders for Royal Challengers Bangalore. When they play against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they let go of David Warner. When they play against Kings XI Punjab, they let Glenn Maxwell go,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

There are too many players which Delhi bought, and created and then they let go. Trent Boult is one of them.

The explosive opener feels that the move was before the league was relocated to the UAE. Sehwag feels Boult’s impact in the sub-continent wouldn’t have been a concern but with the ball swinging in UAE, the relocation proved to be a blessing for him and the defending champions.

IPL was to take place in India, so maybe that’s why Delhi let go of him. If Delhi had known that the IPL will happen in Dubai, then they might not have let go of Boult, because in Dubai, fast bowlers definitely get some help,” Sehwag said. “Because the weather has started going slightly colder, so the ball started swinging as well,” he added.

Boult’s three wicket haul in the final helped MI to their fifth title as he went on to bag the man of the match award.
