IPL 2020: ‘Unhappy’ CSK management likely to axe several players ahead of the next season, claims report

Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings had a below-par run in the 13th season of the tournament. With just three victories after playing ten clashes, the Chennai-based franchise is struggling at the last spot in the Points Table. Surprisingly, CSK flourished with the same squad in the previous two editions (2018 and 2019) where they finished as champions and runner-ups respectively.

Nothing has gone in favour of CSK in IPL 2020. Fans felt disappointed after looking at their performances in all three departments of the game. Moreover, questions on MS Dhoni’s captaincy and intent were also raised during this season.

Unfortunately, CSK’s campaign derailed even before the tournament kick-started. Two of their most important players Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulled out from IPL 2020. Another massive blow hit them after 13 members of their squad including two players (Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad) got infected by the coronavirus. It won’t be wrong to say that IPL 2020 has been the worst season for them since the tournament began.

CSK management to take ‘tough calls’

Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla

According to a report published by InsideSport, the Chennai Super Kings management is highly unhappy with the performances of their players. It further says that the franchise is likely to axe several players before the start of IPL 2021. The team management is reportedly looking for more youngsters in the side to remove the tag of “Dad’s Army”.

“See as Fleming has said, a lot of chinks in the armour have been exposed this time. Some tough calls surely will be taken. The only issue is there is little time between now and the next edition”, a source was quoted as saying in the report.

With this mindset, the likes of Shane Watson, Piyush Chawla, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu and Imran Tahir could be under the radar of the franchise. Moreover, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh are already out of their 3-year contracts. Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran are few of the players who performed well for last year’s runner-ups.
