The 13th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end with the fifth title for Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai-based franchise beat Delhi Capitals in the finals by five wickets on Tuesday to defend their title.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag formed his best XI of the season at the end of IPL 2020. Starting with the openers, he picked the highest run-getter of the tournament and KXIP skipper KL Rahul. Along with him, the 42-year old went for RCB debutant Devdutt Padikkal to open the innings.

Sehwag picked Suryakumar Yadav (MI), Virat Kohli (RCB) and David Warner (SRH) as the three middle-order batsmen. He also appointed Kohli as the skipper of the side, edging past Warner.

“He (Suryakumar) has performed brilliantly since the last three seasons, and he’s shown consistency. At No. 4 I’ve picked Kohli. He always scores runs and hence I’ve given him captaincy as well. He’s an aggressive player and captain and can take the team along with him.” Sehwag said during a post-match show on Cricbuzz.

“At No. 5 I’ve picked David Warner because he’s been in great form and scored runs. I was confused whom to pick as captain – David Warner or Virat Kohli – but went ahead with Kohli because he can open the innings as well as bat in the middle order,” he added.

After getting confused between three players for the sixth spot in the team, Sehwag went for RCB’s AB de Villiers.

“The competition was fierce for No. 6 – Pollard and Pandya were contenders, but based on this year’s performance, I’ve picked ABD,” Sehwag added.

Virender Sehwag chose Rashid Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal as the two leg-spinners for his best XI of IPL 2020. Coming to the pacers, he picked the top three front-line speedsters of the tournament: Kagiso Rabada, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. The former cricketer also chose Mumbai Indians youngster Ishan Kishan as the 12th man in his IPL 2020 XI.
