Chris Gayle came good for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) with an innings of 99 runs against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) that saw Gayle putting on a six-hitting showcase. Gayle took his side to a terrific score of 185 runs. The innings also saw Gayle hit his 1000th T20 six making him the first player to do so.
RR had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Jofra Archer gave RR a great start as he dismissed Mandeep Singh for a first-ball duck. However, Chris Gayle along with KL Rahul and later Nicholas Pooran kept hitting sixes at will. His knock included 8 monstrous sixes. Gayle was finally castled by Archer in the last over one run short of a century.

In the last over, Gayle was batting on 99 runs needing just one run for a record 7th IPL century. He was however, castled by a beauty of a delivery from Jofra Archer. Immediately following the dismissal, Gayle lost his cool by flinging his bat in anger. However, he soon calmed down and shook hands with Archer appreciating him for his delivery.
The moment went from one where the spirit of cricket was in question to one where the spirit of cricket was seen in all its glory.
