The struggling Chennai Super Kings registered their second win on the trot as they dented Kolkata Knight Riders’ playoff hopes. Chasing 173, CSK clinched the game by 6 wickets on the last ball of the game. Youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad’s second consecutive fifty of the season and Ravindra Jadeja’s quickfire 31 sealed CSK’s 5th win in IPL 2020.
Nitish Rana’s scintillating 87 went in vain as KKR bowlers yet again failed to strike early. The loss has seriously jeopardised KKR’s playoff chances as they now are at the mercy of other sides. With 12 points from their 13 games, the Eoin Morgan led side are currently fifth on the table.
We have put ourselves in this position
In the face of all odds, KKR mentor David Hussey is still hopeful of his side’s playoff chances. Hussey opines the few days breather before their next game against RR will help them bounceback and give their best
“We have put ourselves in this position by losing games. But we are still breathing in the competition. The next game is against Rajasthan,” Hussey said during the post-match press conference.
“In a few days’ time, we are going to recharge our batteries and come out and play free-flowing cricket. You never know what could happen, results go our way and we can shock few teams in the playoffs,” he added.
The former Aussie international admits they were outplayed by CSK in every aspect of the game. He goes on to laud them for their performance despite the early elimination.
“Every defeat is difficult. But full credit to Chennai, they deserve the win. I think they bowled and field well and then they chased the total,” he said.
