What was seemed to be Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s best season in the IPL has come to a screeching halt as they crashed out of IPL 2020. Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed RCB by 6 wickets in the eliminator to dash their hopes of a maiden title. Put to bat first, the Virat Kohli led side finished on a modest 131 before SRH comfortably chased down after some early hiccups.

RCB fought till the end but Kane Williamson‘s match-saving fifty and Jason Holder‘s late flourish snatched the game away from them in the last over thriller.

Together through the highs and lows

Kohli posted an emotional message for the fans after the loss as he thanked them for their continued support. The RCB skipper adds that he is proud of the way his side played no matter what the result is.

The tweet read, “Together through the highs and lows. It’s been a great journey for us as a unit. Yes things did not go our way but proud of the whole group. Thank you to all our fans for your support. Your love makes us stronger. See you all soon. #PlayBold @RCBTweets.

We probably ran out of steam

RCB

RCB head coach Simon Katich feels that the side’s batting ran out of juice in the second half which led to all the trouble at the fag end of the league. He admits that the batting unit led the side down when they were needed the most. The story was the same in the eliminator as a top-order collapse left too much for AB de Villiers in the middle.

We felt like we were on track at the 10-games mark, and then heading into the last four games… looking back on it now, it feels like we probably ran out of a bit steam,” said Katich at the post-match presentation.

“Particularly with the bat. That’s probably the one area that faded a bit after a really good start to the tournament. Credit to the Sunrisers today, I thought they squeezed us beautifully. They took early wickets and then we were always under pressure trying to play catch up,” he added.

Having passed the first huddle, SRH face a struggling Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier at Abu Dhabi.
