IPL 2021: BCCI announces player list for the auction; 292 players to go under the hammer
With the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) looming, all focus is on the upcoming auction which is set to take place on February 18. While the 2020 edition of the tournament was held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic and from September to November at that, the 2021 edition will be back in India and it will be held in the conventional months of April and May.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are defending champions at the moment and they will once again be overwhelming favourites to win the tournament again. This is especially because reports have stated that the league stages of the IPL will be held in stadiums in and around Mumbai in order to keep up with COVID-19 protocol and bio-bubbles.
Rs. 2 crores set as the highest reserve price
For this year’s auction, Rs. 2 crores has been set as the highest reserve base price. Two Indian players have gone for the same – Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh while eight overseas players have gone for it – Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy and Mark Wood.
12 players have gone for Rs. 1.5 crores as their base price while 11 have gone for Rs. 1 crore which includes Indian Test side players Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav. The players amount to a total of 292 with there being 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 associate nation players.
The auction will take place in Chennai.
