IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Team Profile Overview, Stats, Auction Analysis, Season-Wise Performance, Full Schedule and Squad
csk
Chennai Super Kings are coming off their worst season in the Indian Premier League so far. For the first time in 11 seasons, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in the IPL. This season all eyes will be on the three-time champions as they look to bounce back. Like every season, CSK didn’t make much changes to their side going into the new season.
But like the last season, the average age of the team will be a matter of bother for the Super Kings. Nonetheless, much is expected from the MS Dhoni-led side as they look to silence the critics and another feather to their cap.
Chennai Super Kings: Team Overview
As mentioned before, CSK has again stuck to its policy of minimal changing and chopping. The likes of Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran make up their core. Having learn’t a lesson last season, we might see some young guns in the lineup this time around.
Strengths
Ever since the first season, captain Dhoni remains their greatest strength. And this time around too, the franchise will be banking on his leadership skills and destructive batting. With the likes of Robin Uthappa, Ruturaj Gaikwad and N Jagadeesan in red hot form in the domestic circuit, CSK will be hoping for a much better performance this time around. The return of Raina will be yet another confidence-booster for the side.
Weaknesses
A fragile middle-order and a lack of quality frontline spinner will continue to haunt the former champions. Given Dhoni and Raina’s form lately, the Super Kings have some work to do in the middle order. In the spin department, the benching of Imran Tahir left a Ravindra Jadeja without an able partner last season. And this time too, it will be an all-rounder in Moeen Ali or Krishnappa Gowtham who will be filling in. All in all, the return of Tahir to the XI is the only way to solve the crisis. But a cap on the number of foreign players is what stopping CSK from making the move.
