Chennai Super Kings players celebrate a wicket in IPL 2020

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, known for its consistency and for making the playoffs in every year of the Indian Premier League (IPL) they had been a part of couldn’t do justice to their reputation in 2020 as they finished 7th at the end of the season. The team struggled with issues of team combination and throughout the course of the edition, were unable to come up with a team capable of making opponents fear them.

Their skipper MS Dhoni wasn’t in the best of form, their ace overseas openers Faf du Plessis and the now-retired Shane Watson couldn’t score big regularly and their bowling line-up was good but not very reliable. With the 2021 edition of the IPL looming, there is a need for the team to rebuild with an eye on youngsters and overseas talent.
