Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched their first victory of the season yesterday against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they comfortably overhauled the target of 121 set by the latter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It was the bowling line-up which was largely responsible for the win as all 10 wickets fell for PBKS for a low score at that. Khaleel Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma impressed with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

In the chase, skipper David Warner and Jonny Bairstow got their side off to an assured start. After the former’s dismissal, the returning Kane Williamson brought his experience to the fore and guide the Orange Army to their first win of the season along with Bairstow. The win helped SRH climb to 5th in the table while PBKS remained on 7th place.

A key moment in the match between SRH and PBKS came in the first innings when West Indian batsman Nicholas Pooran was run-out for a duck. Pooran’s fellow West Indian partner Chris Gayle had knocked the ball and set off for a single. Even as Pooran raced towards the striker’s end, SRH skipper David Warner’s throw caught him short of the crease. The run out meant Pooran got out for a duck without facing a ball. Further, it was his third duck of the season and he has now scored just 9 runs in four matches.

After the match got over, Warner and Pooran were seen hanging out by the bench and having a chat. The two posed for a picture as well and the Australian posted it to his Instagram stories along with a cheeky caption saying, “Don’t run on me Boi @nicholaspooran

SRH’s next match will be against Delhi Capitals on the 25th of April while PBKS face Mumbai Indians tomorrow.
