Arjun Tendulkar‘s selection in the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by Mumbai Indians (MI) came under criticism especially on social media with people coming up with allegations of nepotism. There were claims that Arjun was able to get in to the MI team only due to his father Sachin Tendulkar. Despite such allegations, the MI camp has denied the same.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene stated that they had selected Arjun Tendulkar purely on the basis of his talent. Further, Zaheer Khan who represented MI at the auction praised the pacer and stated that he would be a success in the future. Apart from criticism of Arjun’s selection, there have been many welcoming the selection and supporting him as well. Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar was one of them.

Farhan Akhtar’s message to critics

Farhan Akhtar took to Twitter to send a stern message to all those hating on Arjun Tendulkar even before seeing him play. He wrote, “I feel I should say this about Arjun Tendulkar. We frequent the same gym & I’ve seen how hard he works on his fitness, seen his focus to be a better cricketer. To throw the word ‘nepotism’ at him is unfair & cruel. Don’t murder his enthusiasm & weigh him down before he’s begun.”

Farhan’s tweet has also elicited mixed response on social media. Some have praised him for standing up for a youngster whose career hasn’t yet began while some others have criticized him for promoting ‘nepotism’ as the critics have been calling it.
