Delhi Capitals (DC) romped to victory today against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as they rode on a stupendous effort from Prithvi Shaw who pummeled the bowlers en route his 82-run knock. The win took DC to the second place on the points table while KKR stayed on fifth although they have played a game more, meaning that their hopes of making it to the playoffs are bleak at the moment.

Put in to bat, KKR’s batting was just not good enough as they were guilty of being too cautions through the opening and middle overs. It was only a late assault from Andre Russell that took them to a respectable score in excess of 150. In the chase, it was all too easy for Shaw and Co. as they secured a thumping win with the opener scoring 82 runs in jut 41 balls while Shikhar Dhawan offered him excellent company.

KKR skipper Eoin Morgan spoke at post match about the loss and said, “Very disappointed. We were slow off the blocks with the bat, lost wickets in the middle period and Russell got us to 150-plus. Then got slow off the blocks with the ball. Shaw played brilliantly, nothing much we could do. Also shows how good the surface was. We weren’t good enough with all departments.”

Speaking about how he used his bowlers, Morgan said, “He (Cummins) is part of our new ball plans. Mavi bowled four on the trot last game and bowled well. Just didn’t go to plan today. You need to be honest and realistic with everyone in the dressing room. We have to be as honest as we can with each other. Hopefully we can turn things around. There is a huge amount of talent in our squad but talent alone doesn’t get you far. It’s about execution.”
