Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who had a topsy-turvy Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2020 have released their costliest star Glenn Maxwell ahead of the 2021 edition of the tournament. The Aussie all-rounder had a horror show in the UAE as he could hardly deliver the fireworks that is associated with. Despite being given chance after chance, Maxwell flattered to deceive.

KXIP had a bad start to the 2020 IPL but roared back in style to get back in contention for a playoff spot. However, a loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a must-win encounter meant they crashed out despite being in terrific form towards the end. Now, with an eye on the 2021 edition, they have released quite a few players to free up their purse for buys at the auction.

Glenn Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham

Apart from Glenn Maxwell, KXIP have also released New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham. Neesham did not get a lot of match-time in 2020 as he was kept out of the side by Glenn Maxwell but in the few chances that he got, the southpaw wasn’t able to deliver. Meanwhile, West Indies’ Sheldon Cottrell has also been released, meaning KXIP are bound to target an overseas bowler at the auction.

The other releases include all-rounder K Gowtham, Afghani spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman who has been excellent in the BBL, Hardus Viljoen who didn’t get a game in 2020 and Karun Nair.
