IPL 2021:- Harsha Bhogle calls out in favour of ‘Mankading’ during CSK vs RR match
Dwayne Bravo
Harsha Bhogle, called out in favour of “Mankading” as he spoke on the undue advantage in favour of the batsmen. He pointed this out during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals when Mustafizur Rahman bowled a no-ball and on replays, it was seen that Dwayne Bravo was a long way in front of the bowling crease.
During the replay Bravo was not in his crease at the point of delivery, which made Harsha Bhogle say this. The commentator and many others have been in favour of running the batsman out when is backing up too much. There have been various incidents in cricket but the same has not been normalized yet.
“Mankading being associated with the ‘Spirit of the Game’ is nonsense” – Harsha Bhogle
Bhogle stated that ‘Mandaking’ being associated with the ‘Spirit of the Game’ is ‘nonsense’. He reckoned that the bowler is well within his/her rights to run the batsman out at the non-striker’s end.
“Look where Bravo is. That is why I believe you’re entirely within your rights…it should almost be mandatory in team meetings to say, run him out. All this talk about not being in the spirit of the game is so much nonsense,” Bhogle said during commentary.
Mankading became popular in 2019 when Ravichandran Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end and received flak. Ricky Ponting also spoke about the incident and stated that he would have a chat with Ashwin and would not let him do this again. During the tournament Ashwin had a chance to pull off the same, but he refrained from doing so.
Meanwhile, hennai Super Kings won by 45 runs and moved to the second position in the points table. CSK managed to score 188 runs for the loss of nine wickets and Rajasthan Royals lost the game after Moeen Ali picked 3 important wickets with Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran picking up 2 wickets each.
