IPL 2021: DC vs KKR, Match 25 – How can Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Delhi Capitals today?

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) seemed to be in a real spot of bother before their previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). They had just lost four matches in a row and nothing seemed to be going right for them. However, the bowlers came up with an assured performance which was followed up by a captain’s knock from Eoin Morgan which helped them climb the table and get their tournament back on track.

Their opponents today are Delhi Capitals (DC) who are coming off the back of an agonizing one-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite the loss, the Rishabh Pant-led side would still be confident of getting a win today as they are still in an excellent position on the points table. With such a balanced line-up, they could be the slight favourites to win this match.

On that note, we take a look at how KKR can defeat DC.

IPL 2021: DC vs KKR – Key for KKR #1: Top order must deliver

Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill

Throughout this season, the top order has been KKR’s problem. While Nitish Rana has come good with some fantastic knocks, he has been extremely inconsistent and has often thrown his wicket away. Shubman Gill on the other hand, is going through an extremely difficult phase as he is woefully out of form.

There would be no better time to get back to form than right away and KKR would want the duo to score big. Mentor David Hussey had earlier expressed his full backing of Gill and the youngster has to deliver today.

IPL 2021: DC vs KKR – Key for KKR #2: Pick early wickets

DC have an excellent opening combination in Orange Cap holder Shikhar Dhawan and the eye-pleasing Prithvi Shaw. Both have been in terrific touch so far and have been instrumental in providing good starts for the explosive middle-order to flourish later in the innings.

The key for KKR would thus, be to pick up early wickets. Much like they did in their previous match against Punjab Kings where they removed KL Rahul and Chris Gayle early, the wickets of Dhawan and Shaw or the No. 3 batter Steve Smith would be key today.
