IPL 2021: CSK vs SRH, Match 23 – How can Chennai Super Kings defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad today?

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are on a roll at the moment as they have won four matches in a row following their defeat in the first match against Delhi Capitals (DC). The batting unit for the Men in Yellow has batted with intent while the bowling has been more than decent. With the intensity on the field top notch as well, CSK are turning out to be one of the more difficult teams to beat in this year’s tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on the other hand, have not had a good start to the tournament at all. They have won just one match out of their first five and they suffered a heartbreaking loss in the Super Over in the previous match against DC. Today, they go head-to-head with CSK and might look to upset the Men in Yellow. The David Warner-led team have the capability to put on a strong performance and they won’t be very easy to beat.

On that note, we take a look at how CSK can beat SRH today.

IPL 2021: CSK vs SRH – Key for CSK #1: Expose SRH middle order early

As has been the problem for quite some time, SRH don’t have a reliable middle order at all. With their top 3 loading with international superstars, the middle order consisting of inexperienced Indians paints a pale picture and has been the reason for the side’s downfall this year.

For CSK, the key would thus be to expose the middle order early by dismissing David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson early. Deepak Chahar might be the one tasked with doing so. If one of the top three doesn’t score big, the Orange Army would be in big trouble and it might turn out to be a cakewalk for Dhoni’s men.

IPL 2021: CSK vs SRH – Key for CSK #2: Bat carefully against Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is and has been David Warner’s trump card ever since his arrival. The wily leggie has troubled even the best of batsmen and has made run-scoring extremely difficult. His ‘quicker through the air’ spin holds key for SRH as it is a potent weapon that is used to both contain the batsmen from scoring to build pressure and to take wickets.

For CSK, the key will be to not take risks against the Afghani spinner and to target the rest of the bowlers. Taking on Rashid Khan would be too big a risk that could cost batsmen dear. Thus, CSK’s middle order consisting of the likes of Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni should look to play him out. If they do so and target the other bowlers, they would be able to get to a good score.
