IPL 2021: DC vs RCB, Match 22 – How can Delhi Capitals defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore today?

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Rishabh Pant-led side has won four out of its first five matches and is on a roll at the moment with three consecutive wins. Virat Kohli‘s RCB on the other hand saw their four-match winning streak snapped in their previous match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

For the first time in the tournament, RCB’s lack of depth in the batting order was exposed by the CSK bowlers. With the experienced players not firing, the batting came a cropper. The death bowling also proved to be a concern with Harshal Patel being taken to the cleaners. They will thus, want to fire on all cylinders today and bounce back with a victory. However, DC won’t be easy to beat. They would want to keep their winning run going and get to the top of the table.

We take a look at how DC can beat RCB today.

IPL 2021: DC vs RCB – Key for DC #1: Choke RCB with spin

Although the pitch that would be used today would be different from the one used in yesterday’s match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, it is likely that the pitch for today would be on the slower side as well. The KKR spinners exploited the conditions well and even the PBKS spinners were able to come good amidst a huge amount of dew.

The key for DC would thus, be to choke RCB with spin. Uncertainty over playing spin was evident in the side’s previous match when Ravindra Jadeja ran through their middle order and DC would want a similar performance from Amit Mishra and Axar Patel, in the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin.

IPL 2021: DC vs RCB – Key for DC #2: Finishers must deliver

Delhi Capitals have had their top order to thank for almost all of their victories so far. Shikhar Dhawan has come good in almost all matches while Prithvi Shaw has delivered on a couple of occasion as well. With Steve Smith and Rishabh Pant showing promise as well, the top four looks like an excellent one.

However, the lower middle order has struggled to get going so far. The finishers haven’t given their side a strong finish and DC would want them to come good in this crunch encounter. Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer have to step up to the plate if required and take advantage of the RCB’s bowlers and especially Harshal Patel’s demons of the 20th over against CSK.
