IPL 2021: MI vs RR, Match 24 – How can Rajasthan Royals get past Mumbai Indians today?

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have blown hot and cold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. After a loss and a close win in their first two matches, the Sanju Samson-led side lost two more in a row. They seemed to be in a spot of bother, but an assured win in their most recent fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has put them back on track and they would now fancy their chances of climbing the points table.

Their opponents today are defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI). MI have also been largely inconsistent so far and have issues of their own to address. Their middle order hasn’t fired at all and they would want that to change today. Despite the same, they would still be favourites to win today and it would take a special effort from RR to get past the Rohit Sharma-led side.

On that note, we take a look at how RR can defeat MI today.

IPL 2021: MI vs RR – Key for RR #1: Jos Buttler must come good

In the absence of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler is RR’s biggest star in the batting department and he must shoulder responsibility. The Englishman has not come good so far and has also struggled to get starts into big scores. With a new opening partner in Yashasvi Jaiswal who looked good, Buttler will hold key against MI today.

Buttler has history against MI as he has often been the one to hurt them in clashes between the two sides. If he delivers today, MI would find him a difficult to man to stop and it might as well put RR on course for an important win.

IPL 2021: MI vs RR – Key for RR #2: Keep up intensity on the field

In their win against KKR, RR were electric on the field. The likes of Riyan Parag and Rahul Tewatia were extremely active on the boundary ropes as they held on to catches at will. The former was especially in his element as he took catches effortlessly even under immense pressure.

Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara pointed out how the intensity on field was terrific in the match to his players in a video released by RR and the Sri Lankan would hope the same continues today, resulting in an RR win.
