Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul has been hospitalized with acute appendicitis and is set to undergo surgery today, the franchise announced. The news is bound to have come in as a shock to the franchise for whom Rahul plays a big role as both their ace batsman and captain. The hospitalization will now automatically rule Rahul out of today’s match for PBKS against Delhi Capitals (DC).

PBKS are currently in the fifth spot with three wins in seven matches and Rahul has played a key role in all of them. With the second half of the league phase starting today, PBKS would still have fancied their chances of making it to the playoffs. However, this news is set to hugely dent their hopes because it has been Rahul who has scored the majority of runs with the bat for the side so far.
