Defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) will begin their title defence against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The five-time winners of the tournament will be the overwhelming favourites to win the IPL this time as well, due to the excellent quality and depth that they have in the squad.
RCB on the other hand, would want to open their account with regard to IPL title as they have some way or the other, managed to miss out on winning the trophy every season. Today’s match against MI might as well set the tone for the rest of the season and if the Virat Kohli-led side gets the better of Rohit Sharma‘s MI, one can never tell if it would give them the much-needed confidence to go on and win the title.
Who will win today’s IPL match: MI vs RCB
The T20 format and especially the IPL is where things get very unpredictable. One can never really be sure of what will happen next in the tournament. This is exactly why making predictions before the match is extremely difficult. But if one has to make one, Mumbai Indians would be his/her go-to due to the team’s quality, the form of their players and the confidence associated with them.
RCB do have the firepower to stop their opponents and condemn them to yet another trademark opening day loss. However, a glance at MI’s squad should give one an idea of how strong they look on paper (which they will more often than not prove on the field). Therefore, if MI live up to the excellent form that their players like Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are in, they would become an unstoppable force.
For RCB, their ace batters Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers will have to fire failing which they will have a huge task at hand. A lot will also be expected of new acquisition Glenn Maxwell who is a difficult man to stop once he gets going. Despite the firepower, MI should be able to tame RCB.
