IPL 2021: “Absolute thriller” – Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan react to Delhi Capitals’ Super Over win over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan
Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a thrilling encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai that saw the first Super Over of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. With the win, DC climbed to second spot in the points table displacing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who had begun the day top before their defeat in the afternoon game, while SRH remained on the 7th spot.
The hero for DC was opener Prithvi Shaw who struck a fluent fifty in the first innings before getting unfortunately run out. There were other useful contributions from Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant as well as Axar Patel in the Super Over, with the former two getting the job done with the bat in the Super Over as well, with just 8 runs being the target against the wily spin of Rashid Khan.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan speak on the thrilling win
Prithvi Shaw spoke at the post-match presentation and said, “It was a good wicket in the first six overs and then slowed down a little bit. I felt the wicket was slow and the spinners were bowling well. It was not easy to score against Rashid. I thought 160 was good to defend, but a close game. I’m just doing the stuff that I have worked on. I didn’t think about the Super Over. I think Axar bowled really well in that Super Over. I wasn’t there. I knew Rashid will bowl for sure and Shikhar and Pant will open for sure.“
Acting captain Shikhar Dhawan (due to Rishabh Pant ‘not feeling well’) said, “Absolutely, a thrilling game. It shouldn’t have gone to the Super Over. We should have done it easily. But, it’s part of the game. It was very tough to bat especially after powerplay. It was turning and holding. Kane Williamson played a very good knock, he’s a champion player, but good to win it in the end. Glad the Ahmedabad wicket will be better than this one.”
DC’s next match is against Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 27th of April.
