IPL 2021: Rahul Chahar calls Rohit Sharma a ‘special captain’

IPL 2021: Rahul Chahar calls Rohit Sharma a ‘special captain’

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar already has an excellent start to the IPL 2021 season, taking eight wickets in four games at an economy rate of 7.37 runs per over. In fact, the Mumbai Indians (MI) won by an unlikely 10-run margin against the Kolkata Knight Riders thanks to his 4-27 spell. He has now become an integral part of the defending champions.

Rahul Chahar has given the credit for his success to the captain of Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma. Rahul Chahar recently discussed what makes Rohit Sharma such a special captain. According to the leg-spinner, Sharma instils trust in him, even though he is being struck, and this is what distinguishes him as a stellar captain. Mumbai Indians have been the most prolific franchise in the IPL over the years, and their captain Rohit Sharma deserves a lot of praise for that.

“He always gives confidence whenever I’m bowling, even if I’m conceding fours and sixes he backs me and instils a lot of confidence in me. He says’ take some time, talk to me for a bit, then you deliver the ball’. These are the small things that make him special.” said Rahul Chahar during a press conference.

Rahul Chahar is also a part of the Indian T20I squad. The spinner said that his MI skipper still gives him hope, even when he is under pressure, and Rohit has been able to get the best out of him.

“Whether it’s the Indian team or the Mumbai Indians he always gives confidence even when the bowler is getting hit. He understands when the bowler might be nervous and comes and talk to them.”

In the IPL this season, Rahul Chahar wishes to take at least 17 wickets, two more than he did in the 2020 season. Chahar, on the other hand, mentioned that he does not plan too far ahead. Chahar also said he has been focusing on his previous deliveries, especially the googly.

“I haven’t set a particular goal. I don’t think too far ahead. I just see it on a match by match basis. But yes, I want to raise the bar from last year. I picked 13 wickets (in 2019), then last year it was 15, Now looking forward to 17. I have worked on my old deliveries. I bowl a lot of googlies now I worked on that a lot when I was with the Indian team. Last year I bowled fewer googlies. So I think that addition was necessary,” added Rahul Chahar.

Mumbai Indians will face off against Punjab Kings later today at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Rahul Chahar would want to make an impression in this match and deliver for the team.
