IPL 2021: Suresh Raina set to play his 200th match in IPL
Suresh Raina
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina will complete a major milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he will play his 200th match when he takes the field today against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Playing for CSK and Gujarat Lions during the two years the Men in Yellow were banned, the No. 3 batsman has made a name for himself as one of the greats of the tournament.
CSK face arch-rivals and defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) today and there would be no better stage than today for Raina to complete his milestone. The left-handed batsman would want to mark the occasion with a win and a good performance today. A win for CSK would solidify their position on the top of the table while MI would be put in a position of slight concern although they are known for sparking comebacks.
Suresh Raina set to become fourth player to play 200 matches
Suresh Raina will become the fourth player in the IPL’s history to achieve the landmark. The first to do so and the one who leads the list is CSK skipper MS Dhoni who has 210 caps. Second on the list is MI skipper Rohit Sharma with 206. Third is wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik who has played for a plethora of franchises and has 203 caps to his name. The fourth spot is shared by Raina and Virat Kohli but Raina will be the first to the landmark.
Raina has been one of the most consistent players and has never been dropped from the CSK side. Nicknamed ‘Mr IPL’, he has shown remarkable fitness as well to ensure that he doesn’t get injured leading to missing matches. Raina would have been first on the list of players with most caps but for the 2020 season where he pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
