IPL 2021: Twitter reacts to Chennai Super Kings’ stunning display of power-hitting against Mumbai Indians
Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put on a masterclass in power-hitting to get to an excellent score in their first innings over the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Feroz Shah Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi. The stage was set for a big score when MI put CSK in to bat on a batting paradise of a pitch with short boundaries. However, it was MI who drew first blood and in the very first over at that.
Trent Boult removed the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad to bring Moeen Ali to the crease. The Englishman then joined Faf du Plessis and the two upped the ante with some brilliant striking. While Ali took most of the strike and kept hitting sixes at will, du Plessis took over soon and hit Jasprit Bumrah for two sixes in an over. Just when it seemed like the two were unstoppable, Bumrah struck to remove Ali before Kieron Pollard dismissed both du Plessis and Suresh Raina.
Chennai Super Kings reach 218/4
Following Ali and du Plessis’ dismissals after their fifties and that of Raina, there seemed to be a lull where CSK were content to knock the ball around for singles. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja were the ones at the crease. It was then that the former started exploding and in astounding fashion at that. The former MI man took on each and every bowler and took him to the cleaners.
Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best bowlers in the world was taken for 56 runs in his four overs – his most expensive four-over spell in IPL history. The final score that CSK reached was 218/4 with Rayudu remaining not out on 72 off 27 balls.
Twitter reacted to CSK’s innings with awe and appreciation. Here are a few such tweets.
