IPL 2021: WATCH – Virat Kohli cheers gleefully as Glenn Maxwell gets to fifty
Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) notched up their third consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they produced a terrific batting performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. KKR on the other hand, slumped to their second consecutive loss, meaning that they would be under pressure to bounce back sooner rather than later.
RCB were put in to bat by KKR in the 3:30 PM match and they got off to a horror start as they lost both Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in the second over. However, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers produced stupendous knocks as they toyed with the KKR bowlers and pummeled them at the death. The score got past 200 and in the chase, despite some good moments, KKR never really got going and lost the match by 38 runs.
Watch – Virat Kohli’s reaction to Glenn Maxwell’s fifty
Glenn Maxwell got in to bat at a precarious position for RCB and there was a desperate need to rebuild. With Devdutt Padikkal looking rusty at the other end, Maxwell had to take the initiative and up the ante. That was exactly what he did as he kept going for the big shots regularly. He helped accelerate the score a great deal as he provided the perfect platform for AB de Villiers to explode at the death.
Maxwell’s fifty was extremely crucial and the same was recognized by the RCB camp when he got to his fifty as they rose as one to applaud the brilliance of the knock. Skipper Virat Kohli was the biggest cheerleader of the lot as he got up from the place he was seated, got past the umbrella that was kept to give him shade and clapped hard so that Maxwell could watch the applause and soak in it.
