‘Is it safe to conduct the Thomas and Uber Cup ?’ Saina Nehwal questions BWF

The Thomas and Uber Cup is scheduled to be held in Aarhus, Denmark from 3rd to 11th October. The draws of the tournament were released by BWF in August.
However, seven teams have withdrawn from the tournament due to the COVID-19 concerns. Indonesia and South Korea were the latest to pull out of the tournament citing injuries and COVID-19 risks. Earlier Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand had decided to opt-out of the tournament.

Saina Nehwal questions BWF
Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has now questioned the Badminton World Federation(BWF) about the timing of the tournament. She questioned the authorities whether it would be safe to conduct the tournament at such a time.
Nehwal posted on Twitter, “7 countries have withdrawn from tournament cause of the pandemic…Is it safe enough to conduct this tournament during this time ??… (Thomas and Uber Cup 2020) #coronavirus”
BWF to take a call on Sunday
The BWF is under pressure once again to manage the tournament after the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament was postponed twice since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There is no replacement announced for the tournament yet. According to reports, The BWF will take a call on the fate of the tournament on Sunday.
India is drawn in Group C, along with hosts Denmark, Germany, and Algeria in the Thomas Cup for men. While the women’s team was drawn with China, France, and Germany in Group D for the Uber Cup.
The squad for TUC 2020 already announced by the BAI while the national camp was cancelled. Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu were named in the Women’s squad. The men’s team will be headed by Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap.
