Thomas and Uber Cup preparation camp cancelled, squads announced

The preparatory camp for Thomas and Uber cup was cancelled after it was confirmed that the players would not get any relaxation on the quarantine period.


The National camp for the Thomas and Uber Cup was scrapped on Thursday. The camp was originally planned from 7th to 27th September at Pullela Gopichand Academy, Hyderabad. The Sports Authority of India(SAI) had planned the event ahead of the tournament in Denmark.

The 6 member selection committee also announced the team for the tournament. The Thomas and Uber Cup is scheduled from 3rd to 11th October in Aarhus, Denmark.

The camp was scrapped due to the mandatory quarantine to be followed by the players until 17th September. As a result, time could be allotted for the preparation camp.

Srikanth, Kashyap, Sindhu and Nehwal will lead the Indian team

P.V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will lead the women contingent for the Uber Cup. Former world No.1 K. Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap will lead the men’s team in the Thomas Cup.

B Sai Praneet opted out of the tournament due to fitness concerns.


Thomas Cup:

K. Srikanth, P. Kashyap, Lakshya Sen, Subhankar Dey, Siril Verma, Manu Attri, B. Sumeeth Reddy, M.R. Arjun, Dhruv Kapila and  G. Krishna Prasad.

Uber Cup:

P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Aakarshi Kashyap, Malvika Bansod, Ashwini Ponnappa, N. Sikki Reddy, D. Pooja, Sanjana Santosh, Poorvisha S. Ram, and J. Meghana.

Squad for Denmark Open (October 13 to 16) and Denmark Masters (Oct 20-25):  K. Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponnappa, and N. Sikki Reddy.

The selected players will be required to submit a fitness certificate by the 17th of September. The players are advised to practice on their own and update the BAI about the fitness and training status.
